Watching your toddler grow and hit those big milestones is one of the most exciting parts of parenting! At Finding Me Now Learning Center in Indiana, we know that every step (or upright wobble) is a cause for celebration. From their first words to those early attempts at independence, toddlers are constantly learning, and we’re here to support them (and you!) every step of the way.
All children develop at their own pace, and these are
Here are the top 5 developmental milestones for toddlers, and how we help your little one thrive at Finding Me Now Learning Center.
1. Watch Out, They’re Mobile!! (Walking)
When it happens: Most toddlers are walking like little pros between 12 and 18 months.
How We Support It: We give toddlers plenty of space to move, groove, and explore! Whether they’re running around our outdoor play areas or practicing balancing skills inside, we’re right there cheering them on. Our team makes sure your child has a safe place to develop their physical coordination—and we’ll celebrate every little victory with them (and you)!
2. Look Who’s Talking Now!
When it happens: Around 18-24 months, your toddler will start chatting more—using short phrases and picking up new words like a sponge.
How We Support It: At Finding Me Now Learning Center, we’re all about communication! Whether it’s singing silly songs, telling stories, or having interactive conversations, we make language fun. Our teachers engage toddlers in playful, back-and-forth communication that helps build their vocabulary and gets them excited about talking (and trust us, they’ll have a lot to say very soon!).
3. Let’s Be Best Friends! (Social Skills)
When it happens: By age 2, toddlers are starting to show more interest in playing with others—even though they might still prefer their own space sometimes.
How We Support It: Learning to play with friends is a big deal, and we make sure it’s a fun process. Through group activities and cooperative games, we help toddlers practice sharing, taking turns, and interacting with peers. Our team is always there to guide them through the ups and downs of toddler friendships and to teach them how to express their feelings in a healthy way.
4. All Hands On Deck (Fine Motor Skills)
When it happens: Between 12 and 24 months toddlers quickly develop fine motor skills, which involve the small muscles in their hands, fingers, and wrists.
How We Support It: Whether a toddler is learning to grasp objects with their fists, pick up small objects with their fingers, or more precise movements like using writing and eating utensils, we are ready with fun daily activities to develop these skills. Using art materials, stacking and sorting, squishing playdough, and practicing self care like feeding themselves and zipping their coats are all built into the daily routine.
5. Mr. (or Miss) Independent!
When it happens: Toddlers between 18-36 months start wanting to do things on their own (hello, self-feeding and picking out clothes!).
How We Support It: We celebrate every moment of independence at Finding Me Now! Our teachers patiently guide toddlers as they practice self-help skills like washing hands, feeding themselves, and cleaning up after playtime. Giving them the space to learn on their own builds confidence—and you’ll be amazed at how proud they feel when they master these “grown-up” tasks. Suddenly, you will have your own little helper!
